During the shoot we used a Black magic URSA mini pro. When looking at the professional industry tow digital camara brands are very common. Red and Arri, but amongst Sonny and Cannon Black Magic is getting more and more important especially in the independent industry. The director of Warner brothers 2019 superhero comedy shazam, David F Samberg, shoot small sections of his directorial feature film debut ‘Lights out’ on a black magic camera. The black magic URSA was released in its first rendition in August of 2014. We used the Black magic URSA mini Pro which was released in March of 2016. At first this camera was truly overwhelming. I had only used DLSRs previously to the workshops and even on the shoot day I was at start intimidated by the amount of control this camera offers you. But through production I noticed how great the cameras truly was and also how intuitive. Features like peak which allows you to see where the focus is are simple but were perfectly integrated. 

 

We used the Dozofilm 20-50 lens during our shoot day. A great lens which was fairly easy to use. The only negative being the how it blocked the aperture controlle. 

 

We used a Lexar Pro memory card which was nesecarry due to the size of our files. 

 

The Vinten Tripod was reliable through the entire shoot and vercistyle. I still had to adapt to its limitations. As for example the movement of each individual leg is not very free. In comparison to tripods for most DSLRS which allow you to move each leg completely freely this was a strong limitation. 

 

The Sennheiser shotgun mic caused no issues and divlered really good audio. Which off course is as or even slightly more important then the video quality. The only con of using this microphone I could think of was that we should have probably brought a boom pole with us as we were sometimes limited by someone having to lay on the floor to get the audio a boom pool would have made this process probably easier. (But to be fair this would appley to any mic.)

 

On set I sometimes checked my notes for dialogue or overall planning which I had safed on word. 

 

We used the aperture AL-MC Rgbww light as it is small and easily portable making it very vercitiile. 

 

At the end of the day the the files were copied from the Memory card onto the schools servers as a back up but also so we could start:
